There's a place for you in what God is doing here
Anthem is a new church plant for the city of Leicester. Come and be part of creating a community who live as disciples of Jesus in the midst of our modern culture.

Build friendship and grow spiritually
Every believer was created to belong in community. It was never God's heart for us to do this life alone.
Get equipped
to bring transformation to your family, uni, workplace or community
We are passionate that every believer is a disciple not just a Christian. You can become a carrier of the Kingdom of God wherever you go.

Culture + Values

A place to belong
We believe church should be an authentic community of people who love one another and do life together. We’re not about putting on a show, instead we’re creating a place where everyone can be seen, known and loved. That’s one reason why we always share a meal as part of our Sunday gatherings - we want to grow deep friendships and be a place where everyone can belong.

Word + Spirit Together
What is a ‘word and Spirit’ church? Well, first we want to be rooted in the truth of God’s word - the Bible. It is the solid rock that we build our lives on. At the same time we long to experience the very real presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. He is the one who transforms, heals, empowers and changes us, so we unashamedly want him to come.

A safe place to explore faith
We want to be a place where it’s safe to explore, ask questions and go on the journey of discovering Jesus. Not everyone who’s part of our church community is a committed Christian yet - and that’s OK. And if you are a follower of Jesus, we want to be a place you’ll feel confident to invite your friends knowing that they’ll be right at home.

Be discipled + make disciples
Coming to church on Sunday should be about more than just consuming a product or enjoying the service! It’s a place to encounter God and be equipped to serve him in the rest of our lives. We want every Christian to be a disciple of Jesus who knows how to share what they learn with the people around them.

I'm new... what can I expect?
Whether this will be your first time in a church, or whether you've been going for years, you're warmly welcome at Anthem Church. Here's a flavour of what to expect when we meet on a Sunday...

Worship
We want our worship to be truth-filled and Spirit-led. And importantly, we want to make room for God to be at work among us. Our worship isn't a performance, but something we can all contribute to! Often we'll give time to breaking bread (communion), sharing encouraging testimonies and praying for one another.

Bible Teaching
We strive to be a 'word and Spirit' church. That means we want our teaching of the Bible to be rigorous and theologically deep. At the same time we're pursuing the Spirit and his supernatural gifts, believing that they operate today and change lives.

Food
We always eat together at the end of our services. It's not just an extra, but an important time where we can deepen friendships, laugh, catch up, have fun and be together as a church family. Discipleship thrives when we have close relationships, so we prioritise this time hanging out together.

Student?
Find a home away from home
We believe God has got you here for more than just a degree. Uni is a time you can really get on fire for God, grow as a disciple and make a huge impact for the Kingdom of God!
If you're new to Leicester, or you haven't found a church home yet, we'd love welcome you, pray for you and support you however long you're in the city.
Our venue is right on the edge of DMU campus (on Magazine Square) and just a short walk from the University of Leicester.

Anthem Kids
Children aren't just welcome at Anthem Church, we believe they're an essential and important part of our church family. Anthem Kids happens every Sunday during the service for children under 11. This is a really fun way for them to grow in their relationship with God through worship, interactive teaching, crafts, games and lots of fun. Safeguarding is a high priority at Anthem Church and we ensure that all of our dedicated team are DBS checked. We work with ThirtyOne:Eight to ensure we're following the highest standards.
Join a Discipleship Group
We encourage everyone at Anthem Church to get involved in a simple discipleship group of 2-5 people who share life together, read the Bible together and spur each other on to share the good news. It requires a lot more vulnerability and commitment than just going to a 'home group' or 'bible study'. But it's transformational! There's no better way to learn to walk closely with Jesus and share his love with others.

Alpha is happening through the Summer Holidays
Alpha is designed to help people like you explore the Christian faith. It’s a short introduction to Jesus, what the Bible says about him, and what difference it could make to your life. It's somewhere you can question anything, share your opinion, listen and learn from others. Alpha is for anyone who's curious. No judgment, no pressure.
Each week there will be live music, a thought-provoking Alpha video, lots of discussion and a light meal.
Alpha is taking place at Anthem Church through the Summer holidays. There will be six weekly sessions, beginning on Sunday 20th July, 4pm at the Newarke Houses Museum.

Our story
In 2022, Jamie and Debbie Finlay were sent from City Church Bristol to pioneer a new church in Leicester. Anthem began as just a handful of people meeting in their living room to worship, pray, do life together and learn how to live on mission. As we outgrew our home, we moved into our new venue, the Newarke Houses Museum near DMU. We've had an exciting adventure with God so far planting this church. If you'd like to know more, get in touch or come along!

Anthem Church is part of Commission, a global family of churches led by Vinu Paul from Living Hope Church in Mumbai, India. Commission's vision is to see thousands of lives transformed through hundreds of churches in tens of nations.
